How it works

What we fix, and how

Most home-service businesses lose work in the same four places. Here's what we do about each one, what you do, and what you get.

Problem 1 of 4

“I miss calls when I'm on a job.”

You're under a sink, on a roof, or it's after hours. The phone rings and nobody picks up. Most people don't leave a voicemail. They call the next company on the list.

What we do

  • Every missed call gets a text from your business within seconds, day or night, asking what they need.
  • It asks the few questions you'd ask: what's wrong, where, and when suits them.
  • When you can't pick up, an automated assistant can answer the call instead. It says it's an automated assistant at the start of every call, and that the call is transcribed.
  • Urgent jobs, like a burst pipe at 2am, are put through to your on-call phone.
  • If a caller mentions a gas smell, it tells them to get out and call 911 first, then texts you.
  • It never quotes a price or promises a time. You call back and agree those yourself.
What you do

Forward the calls you don't answer to the line we set up. With most carriers that takes a few minutes, and your number, Google listing and business cards stay the same.

What you get

A text for every job: what's wrong, the address, and when they're free. Call back and book it.

Questions

Will callers think they're talking to a person?

No. Every call starts with the automated assistant saying what it is and that the call is transcribed. If anyone asks, it tells them the truth, and anything it can’t handle comes to you.

Do I need a new phone number?

No. With most carriers you forward only the calls you don’t answer, so your number, your Google listing and your business cards stay the same.

What if the caller doesn't want to text?

They can call back or leave a voicemail as usual, and the voicemail comes to you. The first text tells them how to opt out, and if they reply STOP your business never texts them again.

How soon does it start working?

Forwarding your calls takes a few minutes. Texting from your business also has to be approved by the phone carriers, which can take from a few days to a few weeks. We handle that paperwork.

Problem 2 of 4

“People can't find me on Google.”

Someone nearby searches for what you do. Google shows three businesses on the map, and you're not one of them. Or you are, with a handful of old reviews and a website that crawls on a phone.

What we do

  • Set up your Google profile properly: the right category, your services, the areas you cover and your hours.
  • Keep it active with a post every week, written from the photos of your finished jobs. You OK each one.
  • Ask every customer for a review after the job, with at most two gentle reminders. Everyone is asked the same way, and nobody is offered anything for a review.
  • Write a reply to every good review for you to post. Unhappy ones come to you to answer yourself.
  • Make your name, address and phone number match across the main directories.
  • Send you a report every month: where you show up on the map, calls from Google, new reviews and missed calls.
What you do

Add us as a manager on your Google profile (we never need your password), and let us know when jobs are done, by text or from your job software, so we know who to ask for a review.

What you get

More of your area sees you near the top, new reviews keep coming in, and a report each month shows what changed.

The day-90 promise

If your total Google reviews or your map coverage haven't grown by day 90, your fourth month is free. You don't need to ask. It comes with the 6-month term, and always with the Perpetual Workforce plan. Nobody can promise you the top spot, and we won't: Google ranks local businesses on how well they match the search, how close they are and how well known they are. We work on the first and the last.

Is your website slow on a phone?

Most visitors are on a phone, and they don't wait. We build fast, simple websites with your phone number and a request form one tap away, then host them, keep them safe and make your changes. Requests from your site land in the same place as your calls.

$2,500 to build, then $149 a month for hosting. Or $349 a month for 12 months with no build fee. On Front Office, $1,000 with hosting included.

Questions

Do you need my Google password?

No. You add us as a manager on your Google profile, and you can remove us any time.

Why a 6-month term?

Local rankings usually take 60 to 90 days to move, so a month-to-month plan tends to end right before the results show. The term has no setup fee and comes with the day-90 promise. You can go month to month instead, with a setup fee and without the promise.

Can I keep my website's address?

Yes. You keep your domain name, and we point it at your new site. A new site usually takes about two weeks from when we have your details, photos and logo, and we write the words for you.

Problem 3 of 4

“My evenings go to paperwork.”

You finish the last job, then start the second shift: estimates, invoices, tomorrow's schedule, and texting customers back. It eats your evenings, and things still slip.

What we do

  • Your customers, schedule, estimates, invoices and payments in one app, on your phone and your computer.
  • Customers approve estimates and pay invoices from their phone, by card or bank. The money goes straight to your account.
  • Your techs see their day on their phone, and the customer gets an on-the-way text when they head over.
  • Customers can book online, and every call, text and website message lands in one inbox.
  • We move your customers and jobs in for you from Jobber, Housecall Pro, JobTread, QuickBooks or a spreadsheet.
What you do

Look over what's waiting and answer yes or no from your phone. A new time for a customer, an estimate or a final notice always waits for your yes.

What you get

Your evenings back. With Front Office it's all in one place and quick to do from your phone. With the Perpetual Workforce plan, most of it is already drafted when you look.

Which plans have it

  • Customers, schedule, estimates, invoices and payments in one placeFront Office, Perpetual Workforce and the Software only plan
  • Estimates, schedule changes, permits and parts done for youThe Perpetual Workforce plan, or added to Front Office or Software only

With the Perpetual Workforce plan, we take more off your plate

  • Estimates drafted from your own price list. You check them and send them.
  • When a job runs long, the next customer is offered a new time once you say yes.
  • City permit applications started for the jobs that need one, and tomorrow's parts worked out so they're on the truck.
  • Text what you want, like "move Garcia to Thursday", and it gets done.

Questions

Do I have to learn new software?

Not to start. On Online Presence you change nothing: we do the work and you approve by text. Front Office puts your jobs, estimates and invoices in one app, and we move your customers in and show you around on a training call.

I already use Jobber or Housecall Pro. Do I have to switch?

Front Office replaces them, and we bring your customers, prices, past work and booked jobs over for you. You see what will be added before anything changes, and you can undo it. If you only want more calls and reviews, Online Presence works alongside whatever you use now.

Problem 4 of 4

“Quotes go quiet and bills go unpaid.”

You send a quote and never hear back. Nobody has time to follow up, so the job goes to whoever did. Meanwhile finished jobs sit unpaid for weeks, and asking feels awkward.

What we do

  • Two days after you send an estimate, if the customer hasn't answered, a short, friendly check-in goes out from your business. If there's still no answer, one more after five days. Then it stops.
  • An unpaid bill gets a polite reminder with a link to pay, then again at 7 and 14 days.
  • Past customers get a reminder when they're due, like a yearly tune-up or a water heater flush.
  • It all stops the moment the customer replies, signs, pays, or asks to stop. Their replies come straight to you.
  • Texts only go to customers who agreed to texts. Everyone else gets an email.

With the Perpetual Workforce plan

  • Replies to bill reminders are read for you: "I'll pay Friday" holds the reminders until then.
  • A final notice only goes out when you say yes.
What you do

Read the wording and approve it once. After that it runs on its own, and you answer the customers who write back.

What you get

Fewer quotes go cold, more past customers come back, and no more awkward calls about money.

Questions

Will it pester my customers?

No. At most two check-ins on a quote, never more than one bill reminder in about five days, only in the daytime, and never again once they ask to stop.

Will it haggle over price?

No. It checks in and passes every reply to you. Prices and terms are always your call.

Questions

Common questions

Do I have to sign up for everything?

No. Online Presence covers getting found on Google and texting back missed calls. Front Office adds call answering, your jobs in one place and the follow-ups. The Perpetual Workforce plan adds the office work done for you. See pricing.

Does anything go out in my name without me knowing?

Only what you’ve approved. Missed-call texts and follow-ups use wording you read and approve once. Anything new, like a different time for a customer, an estimate or a final notice, waits for your yes. You can read every message in your account.

What if a customer asks to stop?

If anyone asks your business to stop texting, in any words, it stops at once and they’re never texted again.

Do you sell my customers' details?

Never. Your customers’ details are used only to serve your business. See our privacy policy.
